The Adventure Continues! FLICKR (yes, its s'posed to be missing an 'E'. Really!)

Ok, so my post for Week three is about Flickr (as is everyone's, true). The picture I've chosen has no deep meaning I'm afraid. As most people who know me would be aware of, I'm quite interested in Graphic Novels in Libraries, having worked in the comic industry for quite a while now. (Lowest possible rung of the comic industry but I'll take what I can get than you very much)

I'm very interested in altering a few things with Cockburns current collection just to get things all purty like and I'm excited that I may be able to influence and help shape and grow our collection in the future.

My pic shows Canton Public Libraries GN collection. Its nothing amazing but it seems to show that everythings grouped together by title rather than by author which is a big bugbear between me and the state library. I may actually make this a thing and see if i can find various pictures from different libraries showing their graphic novel collection. I'm kinda interested in actually starting a Graphic Novel collection for Libraries type blog (why do i keep capitalising everything) but I need to look around and see if that niche has been filled or if there's even space for one in the first place.

Excelsior! )(sigh...sorry.)

  1. I know just what you mean about shelving GN's by author. We have a pretty good collection here and came up with a couple of inertsing shelving techniques, not least was shelving by series. We have just started applying the same concepts to YA and JF books too, to get series shelved together, rather than by author. I have to say we also created a separate area for Mills & Boon, which has been very popular.
And, BTW, I like your blog title; it helped inspire me to be more open than I was initially planning!

  2. Hey excellent! Thanks. Good to know other libraries are doing this too, will help me convince the powers that be that its a good idea!

  3. Michael, this is a good idea! It makes sense to group them together under the title.

  4. Hey dood, you should start a comic called 'the adventures of shelve the GNs by title man and his trusty sidekick labeller boy' and post it on your blog.

  5. I'm enjoying your blog Michael. Your writing on the Cockburn public blog is a hoot as well.

  6. Adrian - I totally should! WIth a creative mind like that you should be working in comics man! Wrong industry my friend. Wrong industry.

Renovator - Hey thanks! I'm very self conscious about those posts as I worry that they're a little out there so I appreciate that!

  7. We shelve popular series like star wars, aussie bites etc. by title (in the AF, JF and YA). Most kids just want a book in the series and often don't know which ones they've already read or which one they want to read next. So it's easier just to send them to one spot to find their own.

  8. One of my cataloguing projects next year is to recatalogue the DC and Marvel GNs under title instead of author :)
